Essie McNeill
For Essie McNeill, working in a factory was the only way of life she had every known, and she was simply following in the footsteps of her parents and siblings. However, after twenty years, she had enough and decided to enroll at Sampson Community College, and she says she was willing to do whatever it took to complete her degree.
"I wanted fulfillment, and having a degree in my hands would secure me a job that didn't include factory work." McNeill says that she credits the staff of SCC for motivating and encouraging her not to quit and to pursue her endeavors regardless of her age. "It really was a blessing to attend SCC. I owe all my success to God and the folks at SCC. I can't thank them enough for the support and love they showed me."
McNeill is now gainfully employed at Sampson Regional Medical Center Outpatient Rehabilitation Center, and she says she hopes that others out there will find hope in their local community colleges as well. "Going to SCC changed my life."
