Bruce Rose
Bruce Rose left high school and went to work as a firefighter. He worked as a firefighter for about seven years before he realized that to advance up the chain he would need a college education.
Bruce was encouraged by his supervisors to enroll at the local community college. Bruce enjoyed his classes and especially liked the math classes. He remembers the staff as being nice and kind and really concerned about students.
When Bruce graduated with his associate's degree in Fire Science Technology, he was soon after promoted to a captain's position on a line shift. From there Bruce did advance up the chain until he was eventually named Fire Chief.
When Bruce retired from the fire department, he was persuaded to run for mayor. Bruce was first elected as mayor in 1992, and still holds the position today, having the distinction of being the longest serving mayor of the City of Wilson.
Bruce Rose will tell anyone who even mentions Wilson Community College that, "if it was not for the college, I never would have been the fire chief or the mayor."
