Jennifer Taylor
When she takes a bath, Jennifer Taylor's seven-year old daughter, Shana, loves to play with bubbles and sing silly songs. So Taylor chose to write about her daughter's experiences in the bathtub when Taylor was tasked with writing a poem as part of Jane McCotter's Language and Literacy Exploration class in the Early Childhood Teacher Associate Program at Beaufort County Community College.
“I've always loved teaching,” she said. “And I've always loved kids so I knew this is what I wanted to do with my life.” Taylor, now a teacher's assistant at Eastern Elementary School, turned that poem into a song, “A Silly Song for the Bathtub,” and, with the help of her family and friends, compiled a compact disc of children's songs, Playtime.
Taylor said she was drawn to early childhood education because she has always loved children and wants to make a difference in their lives. “We have many community oriented students in the Early Childhood Program at BCCC,” said McCotter. “Most of these folks – Jennifer included – have families and lives and are extremely busy, yet they come to school and do well. And then give back to our children and families.”
