Lori Ferguson
Lori Ferguson came to Brunswick Community College through a partnership with Brunswick County Department of Social Services Work First Division. An unemployed single mother, living with relatives, Lori was determined to find gainful employment and create stability once again for her family.
Having been out of the workforce for quite some time, Lori's determination would be challenged by her fears of re-entering the workforce as an older worker and her minimal experience with new technologies.
Her daily job search began with a fine combing of local newspaper employment ads-yielding very little or nothing. Lori heard about the E3 Program (Education, Empowerment, and Employment) at Brunswick Community College and decided to enroll.
The county's public transportation system was her only means of getting to and from school, but she rarely missed any class time. Lori was very engaged in course instruction and often brought in articles to encourage her instructor and classmates. During the course of the E3 Program, Lori took assessments towards receiving the Career Readiness Certification (CRC). Lori scored “Gold” and attained the highest score possible on all three assessments.
In October, five months after completing HRD courses, Lori is now employed by a local manufacturing company and looking towards a hopeful future.
