Miranda Matthews

Miranda Matthews When Miranda Matthews sets a goal, she doesn't wait around to finish it.

Thanks in part to dual enrollment courses at Craven Community College, the 23-year-old Cove City woman was able to earn her bachelor's degree from East Carolina University only two years after she'd graduated from high school.

“Craven did a world of wonders for me,” said Matthews. “I would never have been able to get through ECU as fast as I did if I hadn't come to Craven.”

Matthews was able to complete her four-year degree quickly by taking advantage of Craven's dual enrollment courses for high school students and by enrolling in the college's college-transfer and distance education programs.

After graduating from West Craven High School in 2004, Matthews enrolled for both sessions of summer school at Craven, where she took full course loads.

“I took as much as they'd let me,” she said with a laugh. “I like school, but I was anxious to begin my career.”

Matthews enrolled as a full-time Craven student for the Fall 2004 semester. She then went to ECU for the Spring 2005 semester while still taking online courses through Craven. After another busy summer session in 2005, Matthews completed her bachelor's degree in business administration from ECU in May 2006.

Matthews now works as a credit analyst at AgCarolina Financial in LaGrange.
