Audrey Berry
Audrey Berry began her career teaching math in the Cumberland County School System. She earned an associate degree in accounting from Fayetteville Technical CC and changed careers, becoming a CPA in public accounting. After a ten-year career in public accounting, Audrey was hired as Accounting Manager at FTCC in the Office of Business and Finance where she worked for 15 years before being named Vice President of Human Resources, her current position.
“My entire student experience at FTCC was great! I had excellent instructors who cared about their students and their students' success.” Like Betty Jo Smith, who is also a graduate and a VP at the College, Audrey was also a student of accounting instructor Richard Jarvies who also served as department chairperson for the accounting department. Once she began her own accounting career, Audrey learned to appreciate Jarvies' teaching style—demanding hard work and digging for answers.
“Once on the job, I realized that there were good reasons Mr. Jarvies required his students to always work hard and to apply skills to dig for the answers to solve accounting problems. These traits have served me well throughout the years.”
Audrey's story is an inspiration for all community college students—especially students who may not
fully appreciate the hard work and perseverance required by their instructors while attending FTCC—
but like Audrey Berry, will appreciate the “creating-success” results in the long run.
