Dr. G. Maurice Godwin
Teaching at four colleges and universities….Becoming a published author…Consulting with police and attorneys on high-profile crimes…Lecturing all over the world on serial killers…Being interviewed by cable news programs….Who knew that Dr. G. Maurice Godwin would accomplish all of these things and more when he was a student at Vance-Granville Community College?
In 1985, Godwin graduated from VGCC with an associate degree in Criminal Justice Technology. He became a police officer with the Oxford Police Department and came back to VGCC for law enforcement training. Godwin went on to earn bachelor's and master's degrees, and finally a Ph.D. in Applied Psychology with a concentration in criminal investigative psychology from the University of Liverpool in England. He was the first American accepted into the Liverpool program.
Through his business, Godwin Trial & Forensic Consultancy, Inc., he consults on crime scene assessment, developing psychological and geographical profiles. He accurately profiled the Washington, DC sniper case, among others.
“The years that I spent at Vance-Granville Community College helped shape my career and personal life - especially the influence that my mentor, Mr. Tom Long, had on me,” Godwin remarked. The late Tom Long was the head of VGCC's Criminal Justice program.
