Ivette Gonzalez

Ivette Gonzalez For many high school graduates like Ivette Gonzalez, tuition costs dictate where they may attend college. As Ivette conducted her college search, CPCC emerged as the best opportunity.

“The College was affordable, close to home and student-oriented,” said Ivette. “It was a great alternative to going to a four-year university. I knew that CPCC would help me get there.”

That was three years ago. Today, Ivette is a junior at Appalachian State who credits her academic accomplishments to her early beginnings at CPCC. “CPCC opened doors for me. As a first-year and second-year student at CPCC, I got involved in the campus community. I joined the Student Government Association (SGA) and benefited from the relationships I fostered with my peers and faculty members. My CPCC experience taught me about public speaking and student advocacy; it made me the person I am today.”

Ivette is currently studying elementary education at Appalachian State. Following graduation in May 2010, she hopes to return to the Queen City to teach third grade in Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools (CMS). Even though Ivette left CPCC more than a year ago, she still credits the College for her success. “If it were not for the many different doors that CPCC opened for me or pushed me to open, I don't think I would be where I am today. The College has truly prepared me for the real world.”
