Krishauna Hines

Krishauna Hines Krishauna Hines confesses to being an unmotivated high school student. Her mother insisted on her going to college but “Shauna,” as she was called, didn't have any particular career in mind, or a grasp of what kinds of work would be available to her. An introductory Spanish class at Forsyth Tech changed all that.

Shauna quickly discovered that she was a natural at learning Spanish. She enjoyed practicing her new language skills with the other employees at the restaurant where she worked when she was a student. She was also inspired by her Spanish teacher, Susan Keener, who was not only an excellent instructor but also took a personal interest in Shauna, and helped guide her through the unfamiliar terrain of the academic world. As Shauna's proficiency in Spanish grew, Ms. Keener invited her to help in the classroom with a lower level Spanish class.

With that taste of teaching, Shauna knew what she wanted to do for the rest of her life. She went on to earn her bachelor's degree at Salem College and her master's degree in education from Wake Forest University. After teaching alongside her mentor at Forsyth Tech, Shauna now teaches Spanish at Salem College. And she is now working on her next degree – a doctorate.
