Mike Waters
When Beaufort County Community College needed someone to help oversee the college's computer network, it called on its own graduates. One was Mike Waters.
Waters was a member of the BCCC Class of 2005, earning an associate's degree in network administration. Waters, along with fellow graduate, Carrie Peed, serves as computer support specialists for the college's network services office. They are responsible for setting up and maintaining the college's computer network servers and CISCO equipment, supporting its many computer work stations and helping with various campus computer-related projects such as establishing wireless access and single-user log-ins. They also work with various college divisions to buy computers and software, maintain computer and software inventories and provides technical support for the college's computer laboratories and computer users.
Waters came to the profession recently. After graduating from Washington High School, Waters went to work for Domino's and enrolled in BCCC with the intention of following in his grandmother's footsteps and becoming an accountant. But after studying accounting for three semesters, he decided that the field wasn't for him. He held positions in retail and manufacturing in Beaufort County for several years before returning to BCCC in 2003.
Both Peed and Waters enjoy the challenge of keeping the college's computers up and running and communicating with each other.
